Der Seejungfern Gesang (Music Recording, Translation)

Poet: unknown
Music: Johanna Kinkel Mathieux
English Translation: Robert McFarland

The silent moon has risen to illuminate the waves,
I hold my sweet love in my arms and our hearts heave and swell.

In the arms of that sweet child I rest alone on the shore.
What do you hear in the rushing wind?
What causes your hand to twitch?

That is not the rushing wind, love.
That is the Mermaid’s song...
The song of my dear sisters who were swallowed by the sea.

The silent moon has risen to illuminate the waves,
I hold my sweet love in my arms and our hearts heave and swell.
