Alexander C. Smith was the lead student editor for The Sophie Project. He graduated with his undergraduate degree at Brigham Young University in German Literature & Culture with Portuguese. Smith's current research interests focus on early travel literature, particularly East Asia and Luso-Germanic literature (literature teuto-brasileira).
Smith was responsible for the collection and publication of early German-speaking women's texts, as well as maintaining the the Sophie Digital Library. His works hosted by the site are largely annotated transcriptions from original 18th and 19th century German women works, but also include original scholarship in the form of author biographies and text introductions.
